Mom’s Apple Crisp

Mom's Apple CrispJason and I went home to visit my parents recently and my Mom served us this apple crisp. Apparently, she had spent some time tweaking it and the extra effort really showed. It was delicious! She gave me the recipe and let me photograph it so I could post it here to share.

Makes 4 servings
Ingredients
  • 4 medium baking apples, pared and thinly sliced
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1/2 cup flour
  • 1/2 cup rolled oats
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 4 tablespoons butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup walnuts, chopped
  • Whipped cream and/or vanilla ice cream (optional)
Instructions
  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.
  2. Place the apples in a greased, 8×8 inch baking dish.
  3. Mash butter, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg and brown sugar together with a fork until crumbly. Add the oats to the mixture and stir to combine. Sprinkle over the apples in the baking dish and then top with walnuts.
  4. Bake for 30 to 35 minutes, until the apples are tender and the topping is golden brown. Serve warm, with whipped cream or ice cream if desired.
